William Miles Marshall of Avoca, VIC Australia was born circa 1820 in Norwich, Norfolk County, England United Kingdom to Thomas Horatio Marshall and Mary Ann Johnson Marshall. He had a brother Thomas Miles Marshall. He married Ann Perrins (Lewis) Marshall on June 6, 1853, and they were married until William's death on April 11, 1883. He had children Joseph Marshall, Thomas Marshall, William George Marshall, William Henry Marshall, Frederick Garibaldi Marshall, Charles Marshall, Mary Ann Marshall, George Hewitt Marshall, Martha Sarah Marshall, Susan Ann Marshall, Herbert Alfred Marshall, and James Johnson Marshall. William Marshall was buried on April 16, 1883 at 'New Cemetery' in Melbourne.

    William was transported to Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) for 10 years as a convict with his brother, Thomas. They were aged 18 and 15 respectively. They were convicted for stealing beef, bacon and two cheeses from a farmers dairy in South Ferriby, Lincolnshire. It was their third conviction. William arrived in Australia on the Marquis of Hastings and his brother arrived on the Pyramus. There are records in the Tasmanian Archives (LINC).
