William Milton Scadden 1906 - 1982

William Milton Scadden was born in 1906 to Alfred John Scadden and Mary Catherine (Milton) Scadden, and had siblings Alfred John Scadden Jr., Fanny Elsie (Scadden) Lester, Mary Janet (Scadden) Brown, and May Alice (Scadden) McCulloch. He married Grace Gertrude (Shand) Scadden, and had a child Margaret Ann Scadden. William Scadden died at age 75 years old in October 1982 in Dandenong, Greater Dandenong City County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Springvale Botanical Cemetery 600 Princes Hwy, in Springvale.

In 1906, in the year that William Milton Scadden was born, the great San Francisco earthquake hit, estimated at 7.8 on the Richter scale. The earthquake caused fires that raged for days and between the earthquake and the fire, about 3,000 people were killed and 80% of the City was destroyed.
Did you know?
In 1921, by the time he was merely 15 years old, on November 11th, the first burial was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The body of an unknown soldier - selected by Army Sgt. Edward F. Younger who was highly decorated for valor and received the Distinguished Service Cross in "The Great War" - was brought back from France (World War 1) and placed in the newly completed tomb. President Warren G. Harding officiated at the interment ceremonies.
