    William Norman Smitheram, age 79, of Hooper, passed away on Sunday evening, April 27, 1980 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha after a brief illness following a six-month period of failing health. He was born July 21, 1900 in Cornwall, England and had lived in the Hooper community one month. Smitheram was a Methodist minister. He came to America in 1921, affiliating with the Kansas Methodist Conference where he served churches in Corning, Barnes, Oneida, and Westmoreland. He moved to the Nebraska Conference in 1935, serving several churches in Nebraska including Hooper, Newman Grove, Hebron, Fairmont, Phillips, Giltner and Lincoln. He retired from active ministry in 1969 but continued serving a Visitation Pastorate until 1978. He moved from Lincoln on April 1 to become a resident of the Hooper Care Center. He was united in marriage to Leonora Gilbert on May 22, 1920 in Cornwall, England. She preceded him in death on February 24, 1965. Survivors include one son, W.B. Smitheram of Grand Island; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Sylvia) Warne of Hooper, Mrs. Lawrence (Norma) Thompson of Marysville, Kansas and Mrs. Harry (Shirley) Hall of Milford, Connrcticut; eight grandchildren, two great granddaughters and one sister, Mrs. Maude Cooper of England. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper. The Rev. Jay Schmidt and Rev. Terry Cain officiated. Interment was in the Hooper Cemetery. Warne Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Music was provided by Mrs. Debbie Gugenhan, organist. Pallbearers were Mark Carlson, Bill Gugenhan, Scott Smitheram, Cliff Warne, Mike Warne, Elwyn Willnerd.
