    William Tebbutt Hedgecock was my great, great uncle, my maternal grandmothers uncle. He appears on the 1911 census as being in the Royal Garrison Artillery at Dover, aged 20. There are entries about him in the 7 HAG War Diary: “The battery moved on the night of the 27th – 28th to a forward position in H22a1.7 between the Athies- Fampoux Road, the marshes bordering the Scarpe River” “Cpl West, Bdr Hedgecock and Gnr Knight wounded up at Fampoux” “Casualties 29.4.17, 2 OR wounded shell fire 158 S.B.” And in the 158 Siege Battery War Diary. 27/4/1917: “Sent 1 Sgt and 30 OR’s to help 113 Siege” 13/5/1917: “Military Medals awarded to Bdr Hedgecock (since DoW) and Bdr Sheppard (Home for Commission)"
