He had a brother Leslie Martin Ogleby. William Ogleby married Ethel Jean Roy in 1935, and died at age 63 years old on March 28, 1974 in East Preston.

In 1911, in the year that William Thomas Ogleby was born, British physicist Ernest Rutherford (born in New Zealand), along with German physicist Hans Geiger, discovered the structure of an atom. He found that atoms had nuclei (a nucleus) and were circled by electrons, much as planets orbit the sun.
