William Thomas Singleton 1872 - 1959

William Thomas Singleton of Sunshine, Victoria, Australia was born on July 18, 1872 to George Henry Singleton and Elizabeth Martha (Gibson) Singleton. He had a sister Margaret Eliza (Singleton) Morton. He married Flora Margaret (Longmire) Singleton on November 25, 1904, and had children Herbert William Dyson Singleton, George Henry Dyson Singleton, William Walter Singleton, Leslie Norman Singleton, and James Thomas Singleton. William Singleton died at age 86 years old on June 1, 1959 in Footscray, City of Maribyrnong County, VIC.

In 1872, in the year that William Thomas Singleton was born, on May 10th, Victoria Woodhull became the first woman to be nominated for President of the United States. She was too young to qualify for President - a year under the minimum age, 35 - and women couldn't vote but she was nominated by the Equal Rights Party, which supported equal rights and suffrage for women. She didn't appear on the official ballot.
