He married Sophia Margaret (Mansergh) Glenn in 1863, and had children Eva Bessie Glenn, Allan Mansergh Glenn, William Thompson Glenn, Ernest David Glenn, Herbert Thompson Glenn, Edith Fannie Glenn, Ervine Arthur Glenn, Blanche Jane Glenn, and Eugenie Sophie Glenn. William Glenn died at age 87 years old in 1923 in Brighton, VIC Australia.

In 1836, in the year that William Thompson Glenn was born, on February 23rd, the Battle of the Alamo began. A group of American settlers were surrounded by the Mexican Army, led by Santa Anna, at the Alamo. The battle lasted until March 6th - all of the settler army was killed. Historians estimate that 400–600 in the Mexican Army were killed.

In 1841, William was just 5 years old when on August 16th, President John Tyler vetoed a bill to re-establish the Second Bank of the United States - America's Central Bank. President Jackson had previously dissolved the bank and Tyler's veto angered the Whig Party (his own party). Rioters gathered outside the White House and burned Tyler in effigy, threw stones at the White House, and fired guns. It may have been the most violent demonstration on White House grounds in U.S. history.
