Williams Hopkins of Australia was born in 1830 to James Hopkins and Eliza Hopkins. He had siblings Catherine Elizab Hopkins, Barbara Julia Hopkins, George Hopkins, William Hopkins, John Hopkins, George James Hopkins, and Rosa Elizabeth Hopkins. Williams Hopkins died at age 24 years old in 1854.

The Act authorized the President to negotiate with Native Americans in the southern region of the US, exchanging their ancestral lands for federal territory west of the Mississippi River. Tens of thousands of Native Americans were forced to move - and march - west.
