  • Introduction

    Winfred “Uncle Win” Stracke was one of the founders of Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. He released multiple albums of folk music. He was friends with Studs Terkel & appeared on television during the 40s (?). He was black-listed under McCarthiism for his socialist support of unionization. One of his brothers was Walter Norbert Stracke.

A Common Acquaintance
I worked as the pastor’s secretary in 1990 at 1st Baptist Church, Sacramento. I was surprised to learn, while talking with our business manager, that he had attended one of Uncle Win’’s presentations, or talks, or some such. To know a young person, such as I was at the time, who knew & admired my great uncle was such a pleasure.
