Yuriko was my childhood friend.
We lived down the street from one another and became friends. We were in 6th grade and excited and a bit anxious about starting junior high school the next year. Yuriko had two little sisters, Toshiko and Teruyo.
Her family had rabbits in a hutch in the back yard. I loved going over to her house. Her mother spoke Japanese and I loved listening to her even though I didn't understand a word she said!
Yuriko 's granny and grandpa lived with them. I thought it was wonderful that she had such a big family.
Yuriko's mother was a seamstress, I believe, and made beautiful clothes for Yuriko that fit her perfectly!
We started junior high school together
but after the first year of high school my family and I moved away from Gardena.
This all happened way, way back in 1960.
I would love to know what happened to her and her sisters. I know that she did get married and her name became Yuriko Tom. She went by the name of Ricki Tom.
