He was in a relationship with Albertine (Goulet) Brechin beginning October 9, 1933 in Barre, Washington County, and they were together until Albertine's death on June 10, 1993. He had children Wendell Richard Brechin, Alice "Bertha" Barbara (Brechin) O'Hearn, Donald Brechin, Paul Brechin, Pauline Brechin, John Brechin, and Helen Brechin. Russell Brechin died at age 87 years old on December 13, 1994 in Berlin, Washington County.
