The woman he married in 1896 was apparently Rhoda Rosecrans Rollins. They had no children. His children did not approve of the marriage, which means he was married before.
Alexander Cantrell was NOT born in 1822, he fibbed about his age. He was born about 1841/42 in Greenville Co, SC and then moved into what is now present-day Transylvania Co, NC around 1842/3. He was in Co. E, 25th NC Infantry Regiment-CSA along with several other brothers.
My brother said A. E. Cantrell didn't know when he was born. He must have found ages in census reports that didn't jive. Thanks for the info. I'll pass it along.
In 1860 Henderson Co, NC census, he was 16. In 1870 Pickens Co, SC census, he was 26. Then, he jumps about 20 yrs in the 1880 Haywood Co, NC census where it has him as 48. Then, in 1900 Sevier Co, TN, he is aged 72. Interestingly enough, on the TN Civil War Questionnaire (where he also fudged his age), he names his parents and grandparents. The Fisher grandparents were not married until 1816 per Darcus Bowling Fisher's War of 1812 Widow's Pension. Just wanted to set the record straight!! Is your brother Bruce Price? If so, we have corresponded in the past about Rhoda.
