He left Adelaide,South Australia at early age and worked in Victoria for some years on the Mitchell property owner by Dame Nellie Melba's father (from 1877-1881). He was in South Australia working with his brothers as a carpenter at Hindley Street.
He returned to Victoria finally settled in Garfield work

Number 36 was built by Alfred in memory of his son, Gladstone ( mother-Louisa Morgan) who was killed in WW1
The house was named Pozierus Cottage by Alfred, next door to the post office in Garfield. Sadly the home was destroyed by fire in May 1996.
