These girls appear to be privileged.
These girls, Katie Fritz on the left and Annie Jacobs, my grandmother, were the daughters of the owners of the General Mercantile in Cedarville, California. The local photographer used them often for advertising his shop. In this one the girls were supposed to be reading a letter from a beau! Annie acctually did the tatting around the photo herself!

Here's a picture of friends of my mom's - from the small community in Oregon where I grew up. I remember visiting and having tea with a couple of them when they were older. None were well-to-do, just farm girls, but had pretty outfits and hats for special occasions. I always loved this picture!
When will hats make a comeback? Love this photo too, Kate Nordstrom Larson!

Annie Doss of Susanville, Lassen County, CA was born on January 19, 1889 in France to Anton Jacobs and Marie (Tisserand) Jacobs. She had siblings John Joseph Jacobs and Andrew Jacobs. She married George Clarence Doss, and had children Audrey Earl Doss, Maxine Marie Doss, William Anton Doss, and Joyce Ann Doss. Annie Doss died at age 99 years old on September 25, 1988 in Susanville, and was buried in 1988.
