Bessie Seltsam

Bessie's father was George Seltsam (1863-1954) and her mother was Emma L. Burton (1863-1953). They were married for 65 years. She had siblings Burton G. (born 1889), Ida W. (born 1891) and Helen (born 1902). In the 1900 Census, she was age 6, going to school, and living in Bridgeport CT with her parents and siblings Burton and Ida. Father George was a printer - his parents were born in Germany. Mother Emma's parents were born in England In the 1910 Census, she was 16, still living in Bridgeport, not in school, able to read and write, and spoke English. The census says that her father was born in Connecticut and her mother was born in New York. In the household were her parents, siblings Burton, Ida and Helen, and John Lukomike (age 19) and Grace Gildersleeve (age 45). Grace was described as a lodger and Johnny was a farmhand. Her father was a printer at a newspaper. Her brother Burton (age 21) was a draftsman at a cartridge factory. In the 1930 Census, Bessie (age 36) was still living in Bridgeport with her parents (both age 66) and sister Ida (age 38). George is listed as a florist at a greenhouse and Ida was working at a bookbindery. Mom Emma and Bessie weren't working. According to the Connecticut Death Index, Bessie was a homemaker when she passed and she was living in Plymouth CT although she passed at the age of 91 in Waterbury CT. She never married.
