Caleb & Orpha (Slawter) Cannon, taken in 1920: Orpha Slawter Cannon was born in 1859 in Logan, ILL. She is the mother of Albert Wesley Neal supposedly born in Rose Grove, Iowa in 1876. Albert's obituary said she was widowed when he was an infant but in the 1880 census says she is single and Albert is not listed. I believe she married Caleb Cannon in Nebraska or Iowa then traveled to Massachusetts. From Massachusetts the census records show them in Nebraska and Mississippi.
Could Orpha Slawter be the daughter of John M. Slawter? Most of his family is from Indiana but I think he was in Massachusetts with a new wife, Bertha E. and son in 1900. He is not listed again anywhere that I could find. Would you have any info on him?
I did not get an email about your comment. Yes Oprha is the daughter of John M. Slawter. He died between 1900 & 1910 but I have not found his death in Massachusetts. His son, Percy, died of injurires received in an accidental shooting in Middleboro, MA when he was 17. Bertha is was a servant in a household in Marion, MA and is buried in Wareham, MA.
I do have more info about the family if you would like to email me. [contact link].
