A photo of Edna Waugh (1879-1979) British artist, illustrator and poet born 29 July 1879 in Shipbourne, Kent to parents; Congregational Minister, Benjamin Waugh (1839-1908) and Sarah Elizabeth Boothroyd (1839-1932). She married barrister Sir William Clarke Hall (1867-1932) in 1898. Their sons were Justin James Clarke Hall (1905-1983) and Denis Lucian Clarke Hall (1910-2006). She died at The Great House, Upminster, Essex, England on 16 November 1979 aged 100.

additional information: Edna Waugh studied at the Slade School of Art under the tutelage of Henry Tonks (1862-1937). Her father and husband were founding members of the "National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children". Her father became the NSPCC's first director. Her husband was knighted in the year of his death (1932) when she became Lady Edna Clarke Hall. Her London Studio was bombed in the 1941 blitz and destroyed much of her work.
