Lavinia Jane Shane was born in WI on September 6, 1835 in La Fayette Co., WI. She was the daughter of James & Hannah (Elder) Shane and was known her whole life as "Janie." She married James Shane on Nov. 10, 1853 in La Fayette Co., WI and they had 5 daughters and 1 son and settled in the Soldiers Grove area of Crawford, Co, WI. James Shane was born Aug. 10, 1830 in Canada?? and had passed away on Nov. 27, 1883. He was buried at St. Phillips Catholic Church Cemetery in Soldiers Grove, WI. When Janie died on March 13, 1921, the family was told she could not be buried in the church cemetery because she was not catholic, so she is buried at North Clayton Cemetery in Soldiers Grove near her brother, John A. George.
