Jane Ann (Cloyd) McWhorter

A photo of Jane Ann (Cloyd) McWhorter in Laurel County, Kentucky. She was born in 1851. She married William Jefferson "Bill" McWhorter from Clay County, Kentucky. She died in 1931. There is a story in the family that Jane smoked from a corn cob pipe and her daughter, Eliza (McWhorter) McCracken also smoked from a corn cob pipe. Eliza would send her grandsons out to find her some rabbit tobacco. This photo proves that Jane did smoke from a pipe.

She did not smoke from a corn cob pipe, it is a clay pipe, I have them both, handed down from my great grandfather Perry McWhorter, to my grandfather Oliver Perry McWhorter, to myself, Quentin L. McWhorter, Jr.
