Bruce--in 1945, the dream of EVERY woman was to have a fur coat. Preferably mink, but others would do, too. You can't use today's standards to judge what happened 70 years ago!!!!
Why did I know I would see a post complaining about the fur coat? My mother had two fur coats. I had a fur cape given to me by my aunt. I wasn't into fur, but only because it didn't suit me.
In a democracy i have my view, and you have yours, she is indeed a beautiful lady. But as an animal lover , i would have said the same in 1945. That is not a political statement!
Well, I agree but Back then and even earlier in time it was accepted as part of fashion.
Glad we have learned of the cruelty involved though it is by no means ended.
People people people,,,you missed the point. It's the picture, of a very happy elegant lady.
Plus,,,God created animals first then us, so we can clothe ourselves and eat, yes you Vegans, we were created to consume meat.
I think wearing fur is a thing of the past now for most. And she is from the past :) more people are aware now and conscientious about buying real fur.
Cathleen O'Brien Bastian No, YOU are wrong. Humans most certainly HAVE evolved as omnivores--that is, animals who need BOTH meat and food from other sources. The fact that one can be healthy on a diet without meat doesn't change human evolution. YOU educate yourself, lady. Oh, and you might also want to educate yourself on not telling others how they should live.
We also don't know for sure that it's real fur. I happen to have a vintage coat from around that era that is synthetic but is indistinguishable from real fur. Be that as it may, it's idiotic to criticize a photograph from 1942. There are so very many things in the world that are worth criticizing: poverty, war, terrorism, bigotry. Injustices and cruelties that are happening RIGHT NOW, while you're sitting there trying to take the moral high ground over 73-year-old photo. What a pathetic, empty little life you must have.
it's always interesting that people don't mind wearing leather shoes, belts, handbags, etc. these are skins from animals too yet, the glaring item is fur. Same people don't object to aborting babies. Just confuses me.
Many, many things have changed since that time, from the wearing of fur to the treatment of people of different ethnicities, people of different sexual proclivities. Too bad we don't have a crystal ball to tell us what will be NON-PC 70 years from now, when people will be judging YOUR photos, Bruce and Tanya!!!
gorgeous outfits, looks like my mum, on her honeymoon in 1942 also.. but in Australia am loving that "slouch hat" almost... as worn by our Aussie diggers.... these were retouched with colour, black and white photos of course.
I'm not certain but I know that, in those days, a lot of colorizing was done in post processing with water colors on the developed print - it was one of my grandmother's first jobs :) But I can't be sure that is what was done here. It could be Kodachrome film, which came out in about 1935.
Entire countries are being bombed into oblivion and the citizens who manage to flee with their lives are denied access to safe haven. Terrorists are shooting up concert halls, movie theaters, schools, and health clinics. Gay and trans people are being beaten to death in our cities. And the best outlet you petty, mean-spirited little SJWs can find for your infantile moral outrage is a 73-year-old photograph? Appalling.
To own a fur coat was the dream of many women at the time (NOT ME!). However, no one wants the fur coat today and for good reason. But---the clothes and styles of the 1940's were sexy, high fashion, and nothing like it since. Think Joan Crawford. They covered everything up, which added to the mystique. You dressed up everywhere you went and would not even think of going to the grocery store without your hair combed nicely and makeup on. I wish we could bring back just a little of that good grooming!!! Geez!! PJ's at the shopping center!!!! I graduated from HS in 1947 and was so impressed with the fashions. We are not rid of the prejudices toward so many different people---I guess it will always be with us!!! Sad!
I just bought myself a beautiful fake fur jacket.. I love the way it looks. When I was youunger rabbit coats were popular in the 70's- I never wanted one. I couldn't get past something that was once alive lost its fur. I didn't think it was wrong, just not a choice for me.. (then again, I don't like to touch feathers when I see them). I hope nobody thinks my fake is real.
