Uncle Joe and Aunt Vaucy at my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary Party! Her name was "Vaucyleen" & when I was little I thought her name was"Vaseline" Though I never called her that so probably the reason I was around 10 years old when I found out her real name.
Uncle Joe was our favorite uncle on the Duke side of our family! He was funny & sweet which made me adore him. He would tell us that "I wanted to marry Mary "(our mother) Mama would say"Joe you were just a little boy" Uncle Joe said" you could have waited for me!" He was the best cook &always came to get me to stay at his house when we came to Houston. Mama said"You can go but don't ask for anything!" So we stopped at the store & grocery stores & finally he said"Mary said you couldn't ask for anything not that I couldn't buy you anything!," So he bought lots of stuff which I didn't ask for but he thought I would like!
I just remember Aunt Vaucy laughing & making me laugh with her! She was married to my Uncle Joe for 32 years until he passed away. He treated her like a Queen as he did all the cleaning, shopping& cooking! He also worked outside of the home so he was "amazing" to me! When my grandmother Duke was very ill my Daddy went to see her& then went home with Uncle Joe. When he got home Daddy told us that when they got to the house Aunt Vaucy said"Joe I've been waiting all day for you to come home & make me a sandwhich!" We laughed at Daddy cause he couldn't understand 'why" she couldn't make one! That was Aunt Vaucy & Uncle Joe loved her ennough to make her a sandwich
