John Dalton Martin was born on August 15, 1872, in Knox, Kentucky, tone of several children of Valentine "Cub" George Martin and Rachel Ann Keck. John Dalton Martin married Lucy Frances Johnson on February 16, 1891, in Campbell County, Tennessee, the record of which is found at the Campbell County Clerk, Jacksboro, Tennesse. They had seven children in 14 years. John died on March 13, 1953, in Danville, Kentucky, at the age of 80, at Eastern State Hospital. He lived many of his years in a disabled condition owing to the fact that he had been severely asphyxiated by a tree which fell on him, while he was working on his farm in Gray, Kentucky. John and Lucy's children include, Rachel Ellen Martin, David Radford Martin, Chester Arthur Martin, Charles "Charlie" James Martin, James Parker Martin, Creed Daulton Martin, &. Samuel A. Martin.
