He also married Eva Jemima Ring Gerdes, and they had children Olive Rita Gerdes and Eilleen Doris Gerdes. John Gerdes died at age 85 years old on August 16, 1936 at 94 Neville Street, in MarrIckville, and was buried on August 18, 1936 at The Church of England Cemetery Hawthorn Avenue - Area: AN, Section: 03, Grave: 667, in Rookwood.
