(1840-1934). Joseph was a merchant, an abolitionist and was part of the 'Underground Railroad' prior to the Civil War. He was a procurement officer for the Union army, gained the nickname of 'Snake Thompson' for putting rattlesnakes in the liquor barrels for an extra tang. Lived in Olathe, Ks. Died at his sons home (Calvin) in Moran, TX abt 1900.
