My great grandfather Joseph D. Patterson. His surname at birth was Patnaude. However,when he moved to Haverhill,Mass in the mid 1890s with his family his father hanged the name to Patterson. Joseph's father felt that a French sounding name would be subjected to prejudice.
This was probably the last picture taken of him before he died in 1929 of myocarditis and pneumonia.
