Widow's application for CSA pension shows Levi enlisted 10 Apr 1861 in Capt
Jenkins' Company, 1st Special Battalion, consolidated with Perry's Brigade, 10th
Regiment (which means they suffered heavy loses somewhere along the way), and
served until disbanded at Appomattox, Va 9 Apr 1865 when Gen. Lee surrendered.
In short, he served virtually the entire length of the Civil War; very few
infantry men survived that ordeal, especially on the Southern side. Levi died of
consumption (tuberculosis) in Hamilton County on 5 Jul 1878
