This is my mother's mother, Martha Love Barker. She was from Shawneetown, Illinois. Her parents were James Barker & Martha Patsey Love Emmitt. Her grandfather Rev Emmitt was a Methodist minister. Her brother Thomas sent the money for her & Aunt Mary & Uncle Emmett to go by riverboat to New Orleans, a ship to Panama where they crossed the Isthmus, and up to San Francisco by ship. They talked about fellow travelers eating monkey when they crossed Panama overland.
