Michelle Elizabeth Johnson 1983 and Helen May Johnson, circa 1929 My Dad's sister
Here sit two generations related by my Father, Marc William Johnson: His sister, Helen May Johnson Truitt
b. March 5 1909 Reedley, Fresno Co., CA
d. Oct. 2 1930 • Modesto, Stanislaus Co., CA
and Daughter (me) Michelle Elizabeth Johnson Smith, photo taken 1983.
b. Jan. 16, 1947 - Living
I love that I found these two photos and put them together. I never met my Aunt Helen but my Dad spoke of her frequently.
The story my Dad told me was that his beloved sister Helen contracted Rheumatic Fever as a child, which weakened her heart. I now know this condition was caused by untreated strep throat. There was no treatment at the time. The doctor told their parents she should never get married
because the excitement (of sex) could cause her death. Consequently, she secretly married Norman Truitt. Ten months later she died. It was tragic and I know my Father grieved deeply throughout his life.
