Øvergaard means "the farm above", while Ødegaard means "desolate farm". Normally the farms called Ødegaard were farms left during the black plague in the 14th century, when more than half of the Norwegian population died. Later when the population grew back, these farms were inhabited again.
Ole Øvergaard was born on June 3, 1904 in Romedal, Stange County, Hedmark Norge to Oliv (Schøyen) Øvergaard and Paul Øvergaard, and had siblings Karen (Øvergaard) Ekkeren, Helge Øvergaard, and Odd Øvergaard.
