Palmyra Plantation
Palmyra Plantation home of Edmund Jones b. SEP, 1771 in Orange Co., Virginia to George Garnett Jones and Phoebe Foster-Jones. Edmund Jones was a Revolutionar War General and deeded the first 200 acres of land, including Chapel Hill, to build The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill March 24, 1797. He married Ann Nancy Lenoir, daughter of Revolutionary War Major General William Lenoir of Wilkes County NC. Captain Lenoir rallied the NC Militia at The Battle of Kings Mountain, routing the British troops and was wouned. William Lenoir built Fort Defiance Plantation home, now a NC historic home. Both Edmund Jones and William Lenoir served long terms in the NC Legislature.
