Peter was born Peter Gilbert Dwight Sapountzakis.....when his mother married for the second time to Phillip Neville Fream Sheppard ....it seems Peter took his stepfathers name of Sheppard...The Sheppards were an English upperclass well to do family and when Peter's mother died in 1923 when he was 14 ....the Sheppard family decided to send Peter to Australia....Peter left the Port of London on the 25th May 1925 on the "Osterley" arriving in Sydney on the 9th July 1925.He was a Dreadnought Boy and he then proceeded to the government run training farm "Scheyville". He farmed passionfruit on his farm during the depression years ....life was tough for Peter and his family during this time...things got bad as his wife Jessie left taking the children....Peter was devastated and battled on for a time until he enlisted on the 12th Sept 1941.He was discharged from The RAAF on 3rd Oct 1944 and died from Sprue on the 4th Oct 1945.
