F. 1870 US census shows him living in Reading, PA, with his wife, Louise, and children, Joseph, Albert, and (looks like) Sallie. He was working as a machinist. The 1880 census has him living in Philadelphia, PA, as an Engineer, with his wife, Louise, and children, Joseph, Albert, and Ida.
