Robert Michael Regan
Robert Michael Regan of Kennebunk, age 77, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2018 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. He was born in Biddeford on May 26, 1941, the son of John Matthew and Elizabeth Regan of Old Orchard Beach. Bob grew up in Old Orchard Beach and graduated from high school in 1960. He was drafted to serve in the Army with the First Air Calvary in 1963. After advanced training at Fort Benning, GA, he was stationed in South Vietnam during the early days of the Vietnam War. He was involved in the battle of la Drang Valley, which was documented in the book and movie We Were Soldiers Once, And Young. Bob received a purple heart and was honorably discharged in 1965. Bob married Terri Jean Daly in 1966. They settled in Kennebunk and had a daughter, Susan, in 1969. Bob and Terri enjoyed 49 years of marriage until her passing in May 2015. Returning from the war, Bob worked for his father-in-law at Daly Brothers in Biddeford. He then joined the U.S. Postal Service in Portland and was a loyal worker for over 40 years until he retired. After his retirement, Bob and Terri spent several winters as snowbirds in Anna Maria Island, FL. Bob enthusiastically supported the local high school athletics teams. As an avid sports fan, particularly of basketball, baseball, football, and horse racing, he would go to Kennebunk, Wells, or Old Orchard Beach sporting events. Bob deeply valued his family and spent a lot of time with both his brother and sister in Old Orchard Beach. He enjoyed many evenings on his childhood home’s porch (now his sister’s house) talking with them, and whoever else happened to join them. Bob will be remembered for his contentedness with life, his laid back approach to almost everything, and his sense of humor. Bob was happiest spending time with his family, watching sports, and living near the beach. He loved having his granddaughters visit him in Maine, and since 2015, he lived part of the year with Susan and her family in Needham, MA. It filled him up to be involved with his granddaughters, going to their soccer and basketball games, playing games with them, and picking them up at the bus stop. Bob is survived by his daughter. He is also survived by his sister and brother. Interment at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
