Russell Oliver Bengry was born on May 25, 1921 in Escanaba, Delta, Michigan, USA to parents Harry Stuart Bengry Sr (1893-1962) and Lolo Lucy Sharp (1896-1990). He had siblings Harry Stuart Jr (1918-1944), William Edward (1919-1920), Betty Lolo (1923-2011), and Walter Alan Bengry (1927-1991).
He enlisted on July 21, 1942 in Kalamazoo Michigan and served as Battery Clerk, Field Artillery, 70th Infantry Division in World War II in Germany.
Russell lived in Lansing, Ingham, Michigan, USA and on Feb 10, 1943 he married Phyllis M Merrill (1923-2019). They had three children together; Lynne M., Harry Staurt III, and Mark Bengry.
He was a life member of the Lansing Michigan F & AM Masonic Lodge #33, Consistory, Valley, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, past president of the Baraboo, Wisconsin Kiwanis, and an elder in the Presbyterian church.
