It has been ten years now since Sam’s death, and I still miss him as much as I did after he died. Sam was a profoundly unique soul- I often told him he didn’t really live in the same world as the rest of us. He had great ideas that sounded crazy to most people, but he would always manage to surprise us all by really bringing them to life. My favorite memories of Sam are of him in nature. He always seemed peaceful when we hiked far out of civilization’s grasp. He somehow got me to the top of pinnacle peak despite an extreme fear of heights because I truly trusted he’d never let anything hurt me. He was not perfect, and caused a lot of people pain, but he was a fundamentally good man. He experienced more on this earth in 26 years than most of us will in a lifetime.
Sam’s love and friendship changed me as a person, and he will remain a cherished part of my life always.
