Steven Mark Hicks was a murder victim. He is notable for being Jeffrey Dahmer's first victim, as well as his only victim outside of the Milwaukee area. Born to Richard Marvin Hicks (1939 - 2010), a quality control analyst, and Martha Mary Case (1940 - 2008), a homemaker, he graduated from Coventry High School just outside of Akron, Ohio in 1978. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, he was required to walk 24 miles to a concert he was anticipating that featured the Michael Stanley Band. In the Montrose area of suburban Akron, he was approached by a man in a van who asked if he needed a ride to the concert. The man, Jeffrey Dahmer, took him back to his grandmother's house in suburban Bath Township and had a beer with Steven.
Dahmer quickly lost interest once Hicks started talking about girls and he decided that he was going to kill Steven. While how Steven Hicks was killed will not be detailed on this site due to its graphic nature, he was reported as missing by his parents and was not found until July of 1991 when Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested for his other crimes in Wisconsin.
Steven Hicks was a fan of aviation: during the summer of 1977, he went to Florida to learn to be a pilot. A scholarship funding the education of aspiring trade school students financed by the Hicks family currently exists in Steven's name at Coventry High School.
Steve was only eighteen years old when he was brutally murdered by Dahmer.
