Warren Russell Corderman
Russell Corderman was born on January 25, 1920, in Cedar Township, Sac County, Iowa, to Alice Gertrude Larimer (1898-1982)and Warren Hatfield Corderman (1892-1969). He grew up in Douglas Township and attended country school, where he graduated. He had siblings Robert Laverne, Morris Elgin, Betty Jane, Berneta Avis, Bonnie Mavis, and Virginia Belle Corderman. Farming was a significant part of Russell's life. He farmed with his father and continued to work on the farm throughout his life. He also worked for Lockheed Vegas in California and North American Aircraft in Kansas City before enlisting in the United States Air Corp. Russell enlisted on September 2, 1942. He served his country with distinction, earning the rank of Corporal. Russell was honorably discharged in May of 1943 to return home and farm following his father's heart attack. On August 29, 1946, Russell married Maxine Schuler (born 1927) at Fort Collins, Colorado. Together they had two children, Candace and Warren "Rusty." His family was his love, and Russell enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and attending family activities, especially family reunions. Russell was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell, where he was baptized and confirmed on March 27, 1949. He served as an Elder and Trustee in the church. He was also a member of the Newell American Legion for 63 years, serving in the Color Guard, Commander, and on the Legion Farm Board. He helped develop the Avenue of flags. Additionally, he served as Douglas Township Trustee for 40 years. Russell Corderman passed away on October 14, 2007 in Newell, Buena Vista, Iowa, USA and was laid to rest at the Newell Cemetery.
