William Arvis Blakley
U.S. Senator. After serving in the United States Army during World War I, he was involved in real estate ranch and banking. He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1933 and commenced to practice law in Dallas, Texas. In January 1957, he was appointed as a Democrat by the Texas Governor to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Price Daniel, serving until April 1957. He was again appointed by the Texas Governor to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Lyndon B. Johnson, serving January 1961 to June 1961. After losing a Senate reelection, he left politic and returned to his previous business interests until his death at age 77.
