William Lewis Wentling was born on April 24, 1894 in Beaver City, Nebraska United States to John Morris Wentling and Eva Elvira (McCcarty) Winslow-Wentling, and had siblings Clara Etta Wentling, Lloyd Miller Wentling, Basil Theodore Wentling, John Russell Wentling, James Hiram Wentling, Fred Grant Wentling, and Earl Ervin Wentling. He married Alma Ruth Wentling on June 27, 1923 in Atwood, Rawlins County, Kansas. They had children Margaret Ruth (Wentling) Adkins Starne, Laura Loretta (Wentling) Simmons, Lila Belle (Wentling) Meeks, Wilma Geraldine (Wentling) Evans, Wiley Lewis Wentling, Mary Ella Wentling, Earl Ervin Wentling, and Sharon Ann (Wentling) Fitch. He married Cora M. (Schoenholtz) Wentling Jeffers and they later divorced on February 2, 1916.
