As soon as the Nazis arrived in the village and it became clear there was no escaping; Yitzkhak's father killed him because he would "rather his son die because of him than at the hands of the Nazi party". He turned the gun on himself immediately afterward. Yitzkhak's mother was gassed to death in Auschwitz a month later
