Buna (Atwood) Varney was born on April 15th, 1922 in Matewan, West Virginia, to Nathan A. Atwood, born 1898, and Mary J. Stafford, born 1907. Her father was born in West Virginia and her mother was born in Kentucky. Buna had four siblings: two sisters and two brothers.
Buna Atwood married twice: The first time was to Clarence Raymond Joynes (1921 - 1980) They had one son, Jimmy Joynes.
Buna Joynes, age 52, then married Noah Varney, age 50, on July 20th, 1974 in Tipton, Tennesee. They had son Patrick Varney and Joy Varney.
Buna was also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She died at the age of 66 in Jackson-Madison County General Hospital on September 9th, 1988. She is buried in Providence Cemetery in Madison County, Tennessee.
