Harry p. Burchett was an army map maker with the 30 th engineers and the 503rd . after perl harbor he was shipped out to n. africa . soon arriving after the debacle of cassarine pass. .H.QED. in Algiers they did missions with the local beduions mapping parts o0f n. afica that had never been mapped before ,and indulging in local delicacies such as steamed goat eye balls and cos cous . yum ! IN early1944 he was shipped to paridise aka hicam field near pearl. ATthis point areal photo grapphic intel was in its infancy but Capt Burchett was considered by his superiors to be afine inteligence ,and interpolation officer Stationed in Hati as head of the U.S Geodetic survey for the caribean theater .IN 1954 His troops were flying some of the few be3ll helicoters in that part of the carribaen. WHEN hURRICAINE Hazel blew through there causing massive destructing on her way up the us seaboard . maj Burchett`s chooppers were the only thing flying on the Island of hispanola .the help he directed with the US army corps of engineers . Earned him hatian honors A fRENCH lIEGION DU MERIT ,and internationol red cross plauqe of honors.Arriving and stationed at ft. myers n, post Maj BURCHETT found himself procurment officer for the army map service and he purchased for AMS/TOPOCOM UNIVAC 3 hE SAID IT FILLED A 20+40+10 FOOT ROOMAND WHEN I SAID WOW ,He said that was nothing compared to settining the gps system for the subs MyNAME IS lAWRENCE M burchett IWAS Born FT belvior VA AUG 1957 though these doors pass the damn engineers in the world !
