The Capapas family originated from Bohol Island,Philippines. The Boholanos were given an incentive during the Spanish times to select a family name of their choice without being hispanized. This is due to the Dagohoy rebellion the longest continuous uprising under the Spanish.


The original surname begins with "K" , which is the same sound with the Spanish "C" . This is with the case of the Calungsod, Cadungog, Catipay, Cabahug and etc. These are all vernacular words used as surname.


The Capapas Boholanos migrated to nearby island provinces like Southern Leyte, Panay Island and Mindanao Island seeking greener pastures since the land in Bohol is underdeveloped not fertile enough and water is scarce before.

The Kapapas surname evolve into Capapas. The vernacular meaning is to Erase. "PAPAS" means to erase in the Visayan language. If to Greeks, PAPAS means father. PASPAS is fast in Visayan same as Greek in meaning.
