The birth date on the stone is WRONG. It should read: Byron W. CHAPIN 8 Nov. 1910 - 16 Sep. 1981. His mother, Emma Jean Baker CHAPIN agreed to tell the Navy he was a year older than he actually was, to get him away from an abusive relationship with his father, Chester John Sylvester CHAPIN. Several other CHAPINs are buried in Cattaraugus Cemetery.

My Grandfather was Byron James Chapin, and Great Grandfather was James Manning Chapin. My father was Bruce Russell Chapin. I would love information regarding any living relatives, maybe from Dorothy? I was adopted at a very young age, and did not live with my father Bruce Russell
