Serving in the British army 4th Bn Royal Fusiliers London Regiment [volunteers mainly from East London], Giacomo was KIA 24 Oct 1918, leaving a young wife and six living children. 3ème Bataille de Picardie, France -the Battle of Amiens- described by many as one of the greatest advances of WW1: a decisive feat and a 'black day of the the German Army.' When Annie received news of his death she would have had no idea of how this battle affected the end of the Great War. This battle began on 8 August 1918. During that summer, the 1918 flu pandemic caused more casualties than the Germans. The 4th Btn fought at Oppy Wood and Chipilly Ridge where Giacomo was fatally wounded. He and his fellow soldiers are remembered in the Mont Huon Military Cemetery France [Le Treport, Departement de la Seine-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, France]
