My name is Connikie (surname that is) I had always been led to believe that Connikie was an Irish name and if you go back in recent history that is true. However we are from a Jamaican line of Connikie and our way of spelling it, although pronounced the same is spelt very differently from most of the Irish spellings. It is this that inspired me to research the history of my name.
CONNIKIE has been recorded in many forms and its origin actually comes from the Scottish variations of Macconnachie McConnachie, however spelt this long established clan surname is Scottish in origin and is a form of the pre 10th century gaelic “Mac Dhonnchaidh” which means “The Son Of The Dark Brown Warrior” a variation of this was also found in Wales were the meaning was “The Hill Warrior“.
The Irish name as we know it today still finds its roots in Scotland but for various reasons, avoiding wars of the British, better farming prospects, maybe even slightly warmer climate, among them, Many Scotts moved to Ireland. 
As many of the Scotts moved to Ireland, they dropped the Mac or Mc off their Names, as did the clan of MacConnachies.
