After the start of the first world war Emily wrote to her father Robert asking him to send the two boys to her. Her father wrote back to tell her that her sister Laura had taken the boys and left the island.
John Lahmers died and Emily married a widower called John Ireland. When Emily became ill she wanted to see the boys before she died. John had to threaten another member of thee family in order to find these boys. After all they had been abducted. My mother who was a very small girl remembers these two grown men coming to the house. They spoke in a funny accent as it is believed that they lived in Whitehaven in Cumbria. Shortley afterwards Emily died and we can find no trace of Frank or Willie after the 1911 cencus in the Isle of Man.
