The last name Craythunder originated sometime in the 1800's when an ancestor was sent up to the top of a hill for a vision quest. (A vision quest is a time of fasting and prayer for guidance from the Creator.) In this case, he was praying for a name for his descendants.During the vision quest a electrical storm passed through the area of land where he was. The lightning was phenominal, killing everything in it's path. He sat through the lightning and prayed harder. Lightning began to strike in a circle around him and the clapping thunder shook the gound beneath. You could call it "crazy". Upon his return to the village in which he resided, a medicine man approached him telling him that the name to be given to his descendant would be Crazythunder.
