Samarth Ramdas, also known as Sant Ramdas or Ramdas Swami or simply Ramdas was an Indian Hindu saint, philosopher, poet, writer and spiritual master. Chatrapathi Shivaji was disciple of Samartha Ramadas.
was reading a book about life of Samartha Ramadasa where there is an incident wherein a person, who was very young, had died and preparations were made for final rituals. Deceased persons wife, Annapurna wanted to have Darshan of Samartha Ramadas before final rites. When she meets him, he blesses her saying 'ashta putrabathi bhava' meaning let you have 8 children. When he comes to that her husband has died, he comes to the place where body was placed, performs meditation for some time and bless the dead body aftetwhich her husband regains life. On seeing Annapurma very happy, which is natural, to have her husband back, he now blesses her to have 10 (Dasha in sanskrit) children instead of 8, which she will have in due course. From then onwards, this family is known as Dashputre family.
I heard the name/word Dashputre first time when I read this incident and google to find there are hundreds of families with this surname, all belongings to lineage of mother Annapurna.
There are more such incidents in the life of Swamy Samartha Ramadas.
