Miss Eley's parents were Alex Smith and Martha Booth. In the 1930 federal census, Eley, 34, was living with her husband Linwood, 58, and child Russell, age 14, in Holy Neck VA. The census said the Eley had married at age 16, was able to read and write, and both of her parents were born in VA. Eley and Linwood owned their house, Eley was a homemaker, and Linwood was a laborer for public works. In the 1940 census, the family was still living in Holy Neck and Linwood, Eley, and Russell were all working on the family farm. On February 12 1943, Eley signed the death certificatefor Russell Ethridge Pearson, age 28 and single, who was struck by a truck and was killed. He had a fractured skull and multiple severe injuries, according to the death certificate. Russell was the child of Linwood Pearson and Eley O Smith. Eley Otelia Smith Pearson, age 57, married Isaac Demiel, age 62, on June 28 1952 in Norfolk VA
